3pm Injection [18]

I had a friend email me recently about 3pm and he said "why you got no love for the dub?". Well, I never really knew much about dub until he sent me some links to check it out. I'll have lots of love for dub from now on thanks to my friend's question. Next update will have some dub and other good music. Following this update I will be working hard on replacing a lot of the bad links with good ones, so don't be surprised if there's few new tunes in the update for that week.

3pm: "The sounds of freedom"
Cee-Lo Green feat. Timbaland - I'll Be Around
Dizzy Gillespie - Bang Bang
The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift - Teriyaki Boyz - Tokyo Drift
Kelis feat. Too Short - Bossy
LL Cool J feat Timbaland - Head Sprung

News 07.28.2006

- Google Talk is set to get some new features. This news is probably a reaction on Google's part to the apparently low numbers of Google Talk users. The upcoming features include file transfers, ability to send and receive free voicemail messages, and even a type of music player status plugin for supported players. Let's hope these features can get Google Talk's popularity up a little bit more.

- AllPeers has just sent me an invite to the private beta of their long anticipated Firefox extension that allows the sharing of files on your computer with people you want to share them with. I don't have much time to write a formal review on it, but I will throw any gripes and praise about it whenever I get a chance. It looks like a promising tool to have hooked on to my Firefox belt, and we'll have to see if it draws any attention from the likes of the RIAA and MPAA in the future.

What IT Pros Hate About Users

Users are an interesting bunch. While most are very nice and understand that everything in the world isn't perfect, many demand miracles. Why six somewhat universal IT gripes? Why not?

News 07.22.2006

- I've recently tried out Dates, a lightweight calendar application for the 770 that shares data with GNOME Evolution and I was quite impressed with the user interface implementation. It's simple to use and has a very clean feel to it. Iprefer to use Google Calender, but this app is a good alternative calendar for the 770.

- Pipepanic for the 770 has to be the most addictive game I've played in a very long time. Pipepanic is a pipe connecting game where you connect as many different shaped pipe segments together as possible within a given time limit. The more complete the connection, the higher you score.Heh, maybe Senator Ted Stevens should play this game to get an idea of what the Internet is NOT.

It's great to have more and more unique applications and games being ported/developed for the 770. The future looks quite bright for the 770 and all Internet Tablets to come after it.

3pm Injection [17]

After watching The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift I noticed there was some pretty hot music throughout the movie. Now I don't know if it's because of my recently aquired ability to pay more attention to music because of working on 3pm when I can squeeze some time in or what. Anyway, stay tuned to 3pm for the next update for some great audio to drift to.

3pm: "Over 3,000 served"
Brak feat. Freddie Prinze Jr. - Highway 40
DJ Ted Stevens - Techno Tubes
Outkast - Idlewilde Blues
Styx - Mr. Roboto
OC ReMix - Super Mario World - Vanilla Extract

Gizmo Project: ALL VOIP to Landline/Mobile Calls Now (sorta) Free

"...Gizmo Project's latest tactic: free Gizmo-to-landline calls anywhere, anytime, any amount, forever." One thing Engadget seems to have missed is that you cannot just call anyone, you must call another registered Gizmo user. The recent Skype offer (free Skype-to-landline calls in the US and Canada) did not have this restriction.

News 07.06.2006

Well, it looks like I'll have to make some more time/energy cuts to NET9. I have two major projects that have required me to ramp up my efforts and time spent on them, and something has got to give. I've decided to cease the DirectCast posts since everyone should know where to get the best podcasts by now. Hopefully I won't be too busy to have to further cut into my personal time, and thanks to everyone's input, 3pm updates will continue without fail.

The mp3 Killed the Music Star

Gone are the days of Quadruple Platinum Label-Pop Mega-Hits. Thanks to the Internet, P2P, iTunes, MySpace, online radio, XM, and other non-traditional outlets - today, the Niche is king.

Even TV and Movies aren't as super-popular as they were before.

News 07.03.2006

- I've been playing with the new mp3 flash player in Bloglines recently, and I was surprised to find that it works relatively well on the 770. It uses a lot of memory on the device, but it plays songs and podcasts pretty smoothly none the less.

After playing some tunes and a podcast, I realized that the built-in RSS reader on the 770 should have this feature (or at least an option in the application's settings to enable/disable it). At the moment, If you want to stream an mp3 and you are in the RSS reader, the link opens up a browser window first and pop-up to save/open the file. Then, if you open the file it opens up the audio player. That's three applications that are using up precious memory and CPU resources.
